Internap Powers Hosting Solution for 10,000 Servers, with SoftLayer
Atlanta, Georgia - (The Hosting News) - December 4, 2007 - Internet performance network services company, Internap Network Services Corporation, has inked a 5-year, $16 million contract with on-demand hosting services firm, SoftLayer, to deliver data center and network services to power its utility hosting solution.
Based on this Internap solution, SoftLayer will deliver hosting services to its clients using 10,000 servers installed in Internap’s Seattle data center and over 30-gigabits of Internap-provisioned, high-performance IP networking at SoftLayer’s data center in Dallas and Internap’s data center in Seattle.
Sean Charnock, Vice President of Business Development at SoftLayer offered, ”Internap has been the most respected provider of enterprise networking services for the past decade. We have used Internap’s IP network service in our Dallas facility for the past two years and are excited to expand our Internap network services and add Internap’s high-quality data center and management services as part of our hosting solution. We view Internap as a strategic partner as we continue our exponential growth pattern through 2008 and beyond.”
SoftLayer is making utility computing broadly available to enterprise clients via a massively scalable server architecture and ”network-in-a-network” platform. The server architecture is designed to provide maximum power and space efficiency and expands easily to support integrated hosting solutions across data center facilities. The network-in-a-network design provides Internet bandwidth to support hosted applications and interconnectivity between data centers to enable server-to-server file transfer, load balancing, and business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR).
James P. DeBlasio, Chief Executive Officer at Internap added, ”SoftLayer’s unique solutions strategy is fueling their exponential growth. They needed a network and data center partner they could trust to grow with them and we are pleased they selected Internap. This 5-year $16 million contract for network services and data center space enables SoftLayer’s innovative hosting solution today and is the platform to support their future growth.”
Internap will deliver an integrated solution to SoftLayer that includes route-optimization technology and expertise, high-performance IP networking, data center space and power. Core to the Internap service is Internap’s Flow Control Platform (FCP) and patented route-optimization technology known as MIRO (Managed Internet Route Optimizer), which combine to provide a high-performance network to SoftLayer. The result is enterprise customers of all sizes, and particularly small and mid-size organizations, are able to easily implement a SoftLayer hosting solution for their Web sites and business applications as part of a secure, network-enabled and environmentally efficient infrastructure.
SoftLayer’s hosting solution is expected to go live in December 2007 using two independent 10-gigabit high-performance IP network circuits from Internap in the company’s Seattle data center in addition to the 10-gigabit Internap circuit already installed at SoftLayer’s Dallas data center. Internap’s Seattle data center was designed for maximum security, redundancy, and power supporting up to 150 watts per square foot. Internap’s FCP technology and professional services deliver a highly-tuned network solution with automated route-optimization that selects the best Internet route based on performance and efficiency. In addition, Internap’s industry leading content delivery services can be easily added to the SoftLayer hosting solution to further increase the value delivered to its customers.
Last month, Internap chose Pando Networks as a P2P co-development partner, to offer content owners the ability to reliably, securely and cost efficiently deliver large media files. As part of this relationship, the companies are launching a new P2P access method for Internap’s CDN platform, which is planned to be available by the end of 2007. This new service leverages the Pando Video Booster, a highly efficient, thin client for streaming full-screen, HD (high definition) video. Internap’s CDN with P2P access can be an efficient and cost-effective delivery option for long-form video and large-volume files and is easily combined with Internap’s delivery solutions for Adobe Flash(TM) video and Windows Media files.
Located in the INFOMART in Dallas, Texas, SoftLayer was formed in June 2005 by a team of industry executives seeking to deliver low cost next generation on-demand hosting services for the small to medium enterprise (SME). Utilizing proprietary software, coupled with the industry’s first network-within-a-network topology, the company delivers unprecedented power and control to securely manage IT environments while providing unparalleled scalability.
Internap is an intelligent route control solution, developed to provide reliability, performance and security to the Internet, as well as a global integrated content delivery service, designed to enable businesses to stream digital media over the Internet. The company provides patented and patent-pending technologies that address the inherent weaknesses of the Internet, to enable enterprises to deploy business-critical applications such as e-commerce, VoIP, and audio/video across IP networks. The company provides additional solutions, including video and audio streaming, advertising placement, reporting and analysis, live event broadcasting, media asset management, integrated web hosting and consulting services. Internap currently serves more than 3,000 customers throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
